Why Cape Town homeowners are choosing epoxy over tiles, timber and carpet
Cape Town homes are changing. Open-plan living, indoor-outdoor spaces and clean, minimal interiors have become the standard, and the old flooring choices are not keeping up.
Tiles crack. Grout stains are almost impossible to keep clean. Timber swells in winter and scratches year-round. Carpet collects dust, pet hair and moisture. Every one of these options needs regular maintenance and still ends up looking tired within a few years.
Epoxy flooring is different. It bonds directly to the concrete beneath it, creating a seamless surface with no joints, no grout, and no cracks. It is warm in winter, cool in summer, and handles everything Cape Town life throws at it: salt air from the ocean, moisture from winter rains, UV from long summers and the constant traffic of busy family homes.
At Solid Tech Flooring, we install residential epoxy floors in Cape Town homes every week. From Constantia wine estates to Atlantic Seaboard apartments, we bring the same level of care and skill to every home we work in.
Epoxy flooring for every room in your Cape Town home
Epoxy is not just for garages. It works beautifully in almost any room in the house, and in Cape Town’s climate, it outperforms every alternative.
Kitchen floors
The kitchen is the hardest-working floor in the house. Spills, dropped pots, foot traffic all day, and then guests arriving to see the mess in the grout. Epoxy gives you a seamless, non-porous surface with no grout lines at all. Wipe it down, and it looks brand new every time.
Patios and outdoor areas
Cape Town outdoor living is hard on floors. Coastal salt air, winter rain pooling on the surface and harsh summer UV all break down ordinary coatings within a season or two. We install UV-resistant, anti-slip epoxy systems for patios, pool surrounds and outdoor entertaining areas that hold up through Cape Town weather year after year.
Open-plan living areas
The seamless look of epoxy works perfectly in open-plan spaces. No tile grids cutting up the visual flow, no joins between rooms, just one continuous surface from the kitchen island to the lounge. The polished concrete finish is our most popular choice for Cape Town homes and suits the clean, modern interior style that has defined Western Cape architecture for the past decade.
Garages
A finished garage floor changes how the whole space feels. No more concrete dust, no more oil stains that never come out. Epoxy turns a functional space into a clean, finished part of the home. We have a dedicated garage floor service if you want the full details on finishes, systems and pricing.
Home studios and gyms
More Cape Town homeowners are converting garages, spare rooms and outbuildings into home gyms, art studios and music rooms. Epoxy is perfect for these spaces, it is tough enough for gym equipment, easy to clean after a workout and available in rubber flake and anti-slip finishes that give you grip underfoot. We can install a gym-ready floor in a single day.
Bathrooms and wet rooms
Bathroom tiles are the number one source of mould complaints in Cape Town homes. The grout absorbs moisture, the mould sets in and no amount of scrubbing gets it fully clean. Epoxy eliminates the problem at the source. A seamless, waterproof surface with no joins means nowhere for moisture to sit. Anti-slip topcoat is included as standard for all bathroom and wet room installations.
Residential epoxy finishes
Polished concrete look
Clean, minimal and effortlessly modern. The polished concrete finish gives you the look of a designer concrete floor without the cost or the cold underfoot. It works in any room and suits the light, open aesthetic that Cape Town homes are known for.
Metallic epoxy
Metallic epoxy uses pigmented resins to create a unique swirling finish that catches the light differently throughout the day. No two floors are the same. It is popular for entrance halls, home bars, open-plan living areas, and anywhere you want the floor to be the feature of the room.
Solid colour epoxy
A single, clean colour with a smooth gloss or satin finish. Available in over 20 colours, including the soft whites, warm greys and slate tones that are most popular in Cape Town homes. Simple, clean and easy to keep looking fresh.
Anti-slip outdoor epoxy
Designed for Cape Town patios, pool surrounds and outdoor entertainment areas. A UV-resistant coating with silica broadcast into the topcoat gives you real grip when the surface is wet. It looks the same as a standard epoxy finish but is completely safe even in wet Cape Town winters.
Which is right for your Cape Town home?
Epoxy floors vs tiles vs timber
Most homeowners considering epoxy are replacing tiles or timber. Here is an honest comparison so you can make the right call for your space.
Epoxy flooring
Seamless surface with no grout lines. Resists moisture, UV, chemicals and heavy use. Lasts 10–15 years with basic care. No waxing, no sealing, no re-grouting. Higher upfront cost than tiles, but lower long-term maintenance spend. Works indoors and outdoors. Best for kitchens, patios, open-plan living areas, garages, wet rooms and home gyms.
Ceramic and porcelain tiles
Widely available and familiar. Cold underfoot in winter. Grout lines collect dirt and mould, especially in Cape Town’s damp winters. Individual tiles crack over time and are hard to replace without disturbing surrounding tiles. A good choice for traditional bathrooms and utility areas where a full epoxy system is not required.
Timber and laminate flooring
Warm and attractive when first installed. Swells and shrinks with humidity, a real problem in Cape Town homes near the coast. Scratches easily under pets and furniture. Not suitable for wet areas, patios or garages. Requires ongoing maintenance and refinishing every few years.
What to expect
How we install residential epoxy floors in Cape Town
Every home is different. We plan each job around your space, your schedule and the specific conditions of your floor. Here is what the process looks like from start to finish.
01
Free home visit and assessment
We come to your home, look at the floor in each room you want done, check the concrete condition and moisture levels, and talk through your finish options with you. By the end of the visit, you have a written quote in hand with no surprises.
02
Surface preparation
This is the most important step in the whole process. We diamond-grind the concrete or existing substrate to open up the surface and remove any old paint, sealer or contamination. This creates the mechanical bond that makes the epoxy permanent. We do this on every single job; it is not optional, and we never skip it.
03
Defect repair
Cracks, chips and uneven patches are filled and levelled before any epoxy is applied. In residential homes, we take particular care around walls, cabinetry, door frames and tiled skirtings to make sure the edges are clean and sharp.
04
Epoxy application
We apply the system in layers: primer coat, body coat and topcoat with the correct curing time between each. The finish coat is applied in your chosen style: matte, satin, gloss or metallic. Every coat is applied by hand by our trained team.
05
Handover and care guide
You can walk on your new floor within 24 hours. We do a full walkthrough with you before we pack up, and you leave with a written care guide so your floor stays in great condition for the full 10 to 15 years.
Most residential rooms are complete in 1–2 days. Larger open-plan areas may take 2–3 days.
Why Cape Town homeowners trust Solid Tech for their garage floor
Garage floors are our speciality
We do not paint walls or lay tiles. Epoxy floor installation is one of our core services, and we have done hundreds of garage floors across Cape Town. That experience means we have seen every problem a garage floor can throw at us, and we know how to fix it.
We diamond-grind every single floor
Surface preparation is everything. We grind the concrete on every job, no exceptions. This is the step that makes your floor last 10 to 15 years instead of failing in 12 months. If you get quotes from other companies, ask them whether grinding is included. The answer will tell you a lot.
We understand Cape Town’s climate
Cape Town’s salt air, coastal moisture and strong UV light all affect how epoxy performs. We choose products and systems that are designed to handle these conditions, not products that work in a showroom but fail when exposed to Western Cape weather.
Written guarantee on every installation
Every garage floor we install comes with a written workmanship guarantee. If the floor fails due to our installation, we come back and fix it. No arguments, no fees.

Residential epoxy flooring questions
Can epoxy be installed over existing tiles in my home?
Yes, in most cases. We can apply epoxy over existing ceramic or porcelain tiles as long as they are firmly bonded to the substrate and in reasonable condition. Loose, hollow or heavily cracked tiles need to be removed first. We assess this during your free site visit and let you know what is possible before we start.
Is epoxy flooring safe for children and pets?
Yes. Once the epoxy has fully cured, which takes around 24 to 48 hours, it is completely safe for children and pets. There are no ongoing fumes, no toxins and no sharp edges. The seamless surface actually makes it more hygienic than tiles because there are no grout lines for bacteria or allergens to collect in.
How long does installation take in a home?
It depends on the size of the room. A single kitchen or bathroom is usually done in one day. A larger open-plan living area takes two days. A multi-room job will take two to three days, depending on the total area. We plan the schedule with you before we start, so you can plan around it.
Is epoxy flooring warm enough for a Cape Town living room?
Yes. Epoxy has more thermal mass than tiles; it absorbs heat during the day and releases it slowly, which makes it warmer underfoot in Cape Town winters than most people expect. It is also fully compatible with under-floor heating systems if you have one or plan to install one.
Can epoxy be used on a patio or outdoor area in Cape Town?
Yes. We use UV-resistant epoxy systems for all outdoor applications, which means the coating does not yellow, fade or break down under the Cape Town sun. We also include an anti-slip silica broadcast in the topcoat for any patio, pool surround or outdoor entertainment area.
How do I maintain a residential epoxy floor?
Epoxy floors are very easy to maintain. Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit, which is the main cause of surface wear over time. Mop with warm water and a mild cleaner when needed. No waxing, no polishing and no re-sealing is ever required. The floor you have on day one is the floor you have in year ten, as long as it is kept clean.
