Why Cape Town homeowners are upgrading garage floors with epoxy
Most Cape Town garages start the same way. A bare concrete floor that looked fine when the house was built until the oil stains set in, the dust started sticking to everything, and the surface began to flake and chip.
Bare concrete was never designed to handle what a garage puts it through. Think about what lands on that floor every day: motor oil, brake fluid, salt from the road, tyre marks from hot rubber, and grit carried in from our Cape Town streets. In winter, add moisture from rain and condensation. In summer, UV rays bake through an open garage door.
Epoxy is built for exactly this. It bonds directly to the concrete and creates a hard, seamless surface that resists everything a garage can throw at it. It does not absorb spills. It does not crack from tyre pressure. It does not dust.
At Solid Tech Flooring, we install epoxy garage floor systems across Cape Town from single-car garages in Constantia to multi-bay workshops in Bellville. Every job starts with a free site visit, and every floor comes with a written guarantee.
6 reasons Cape Town homeowners choose epoxy for their garage floors
It resists oil, tyre marks and chemicals
Give your home a fresh, modern look with a durable epoxy floor. We work in garages, patios, kitchens, living areas and entertainment spaces. Residential epoxy is easy to clean and can last up to 15 years with basic care.
It lasts 10–15 years with basic care
A properly installed epoxy floor holds up for a long time. As long as we prepare the surface correctly, your floor will look great for years without needing repairs or recoating.
No more concrete dust
Bare concrete sheds fine dust that settles on your car, your tools and everything stored in the garage. Epoxy seals the surface completely the dust problem disappears overnight.
It adds value to your property
A clean, finished garage floor signals a well-maintained home. This matters whether you plan to sell or just want your property to look its best. It is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make.
Available in multiple finishes
You are not stuck with one look. Choose from solid colour, flake systems, metallic finishes or an anti-slip topcoat. We will show you samples during your free site visit so you can pick the finish that works for your space.
Ready to use in 24–48 hours
You can walk on your new floor within 24 hours of installation. Vehicles can go back in within 48–72 hours. We plan the job so the downtime fits around your schedule.
Epoxy garage floor finishes we install in Cape Town
Solid colour epoxy
A clean, single-colour epoxy finish is the most popular choice for residential garages. It is smooth, easy to maintain, and available in over 20 colours; light grey and charcoal are the top picks in Cape Town.
Flake / broadcast epoxy
Coloured vinyl flakes are broadcast into the topcoat to create a textured, multi-tone finish. This is the most popular system we install; it hides minor surface marks, adds a natural anti-slip texture and looks great in any garage.
Metallic epoxy
Metallic epoxy creates a one-of-a-kind, high-gloss finish with a swirling metallic effect. No two floors look the same. It is popular with classic car owners, home gym setups and anyone who wants their garage to look like a showroom.
Anti-slip epoxy
For open garages, wet areas and outdoor patios, we add a silica broadcast to the topcoat to create grip underfoot. It looks the same as a standard epoxy finish but provides real traction when the floor is wet.
How we install epoxy garage floors in Cape Town
No two garages are the same. Some have cracks. Some have old paint. Some are brand-new slabs that have never been touched. Our process covers all of it.
01
Free site visit and assessment
We come to your garage, look at the concrete, check for cracks, contamination or moisture issues, and talk to you through your finish options. At the end of the visit, we give you a written quote. There is no charge and no pressure.
02
Diamond grinding the surface
This is the most important part of the whole job. We grind the concrete using a diamond grinder to open up the surface and remove any old paint, sealer or contamination. This creates the mechanical bond that makes the epoxy stick permanently. We never skip this step, and you should walk away from any installer who does.
03
Crack and defect repair
Any cracks, holes or chips in the concrete are filled and levelled before we apply a single drop of epoxy. A sound base is what gives you a smooth, long-lasting finish. We do not coat over problems and hope for the best.
04
Epoxy application
We apply the system in layers: primer coat, body coat and topcoat with the correct curing time between each layer. The number of coats depends on the system you have chosen. Every layer is applied by hand by our trained installation team.
05
Curing, inspection and handover
Once the final coat is down, we let the floor cure fully before we sign off. We do a walkthrough with you to make sure you are happy with the result. You get the care instructions in writing, and we leave you with a clean, finished garage.
Why Cape Town homeowners trust Solid Tech for their garage floor
Garage floors are our speciality
We do not paint walls or lay tiles. Epoxy floor installation is one of our core services, and we have done hundreds of garage floors across Cape Town. That experience means we have seen every problem a garage floor can throw at us, and we know how to fix it.
We diamond-grind every single floor
Surface preparation is everything. We grind the concrete on every job, no exceptions. This is the step that makes your floor last 10 to 15 years instead of failing in 12 months. If you get quotes from other companies, ask them whether grinding is included. The answer will tell you a lot.
We understand Cape Town’s climate
Cape Town’s salt air, coastal moisture and strong UV light all affect how epoxy performs. We choose products and systems that are designed to handle these conditions, not products that work in a showroom but fail when exposed to Western Cape weather.
Written guarantee on every installation
Every garage floor we install comes with a written workmanship guarantee. If the floor fails due to our installation, we come back and fix it. No arguments, no fees.

Epoxy garage floor questions, answered
How long does an epoxy garage floor last?
A properly installed epoxy garage floor lasts 10 to 15 years, sometimes longer. The key is the prep work. If the concrete is ground correctly and the floor is free of contamination before we coat it, the epoxy bonds permanently and holds up to daily use for many years.
Can epoxy be applied over my existing garage floor?
Yes, in most cases. Whether your floor is bare concrete, has old paint on it, or has some cracking, we can work with it. The surface needs to be in reasonable structural condition. We assess this during your free site visit and let you know what is possible before we start.
Is an epoxy garage floor slippery when wet or oily?
Plain epoxy can be slippery when wet, especially in open garages that get rain. For any garage where this is a concern, we add a silica anti-slip broadcast to the topcoat. It does not change the look of the floor but gives you a real grip even when the surface is wet. Just ask for it when you get your quote.
How long before I can park my car back on the epoxy floor?
You can walk on the floor within 24 hours of installation. Vehicles can go back in within 48 to 72 hours. We will give you the exact timeline based on the system we install and the weather conditions during your job.
Can you apply epoxy over a cracked garage floor?
Yes. Cracks are a normal part of concrete over time, and they do not disqualify your floor from being epoxy-coated. We fill and repair cracks as part of our preparation process before any coating is applied. If the cracks are structural, we will let you know during the site visit.
What is the difference between epoxy and garage floor paint?
Garage floor paint sits on top of the concrete and does not bond to it. It peels, chips and wears away usually within one to two years. Epoxy bonds chemically and mechanically to the concrete, becoming part of the surface. It is not a coating you reapply every few years; it is a permanent floor system. The difference in longevity is enormous.
